"I’m really sorry that I have to be out here today," said local pro-choice activist Laurie O'Connell. She remembers being proud of the Roe v. Wade decision that enshrined the right to an abortion in the United States in 1973.
"We thought that our rights mattered. We thought that our existence as citizens mattered," she continued. "But now, 50 years later, apparently we are just breeding chattel."
Protesters yelled out "Not the church, not the state, women will decide our fate!" at Sunday's Redding abortion rights rally in front of city hall.

"It affects every woman in America," said event organizer Cheryl McKinley. "It’s about abortion, but it’s also about a women’s right to healthcare privacy, and it’s about women’s rights in general."
"...what they want to do is put us back to being barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen," she finished.
The coalition doesn't have any further protests planned for now but is continuing to update its website on Facebook.
