Former Bama Forward Alex Tchikou Transfers to Rhode Island

Former Alabama forward, Alex Tchikou announced his transfer to the University of Rhode Island on Sunday morning.

"First, let me Thank God, my family and all the people who stuck with me through the tough times. I would like to thank Coach Archie Miller and Kenny Johnson and his staff for believing in me and by giving me an opportunity to continue to pursue my dreams. I will continue my college career to Rhode Island University," Tchikou said in a Twitter post.

The French-speaking forward entered the transfer portal after the Tide lost to Notre Dame in the round of 64 in March Madness.

He tore his Achilles tendon in the 2020-2021 season which forced him to sit out as a medical redshirt. The next season he struggled to get minutes, only playing in three games and logging in just six minutes. His move to Rhode Island will likely mean more playing time and possibly starting minutes for the big man.

Coming out of high school, Tchikou was rated as a four-star by 247Sports and ESPN. Scouts praised his size and length as someone who was active on both sides of the floor.

The Archie Miller Rhode Island Rams went 15-16 overall last season while playing in the Atlantic-10 conference. They were unable to make the national tournament.

Tchikou is one of six players who transferred from the Tide basketball team last season.
