Store owner Jessica Tullis Carr said as a Waters resident she had wanted to offer Pike Road another retail option. When a daughter’s plans changed, she jumped at a new opportunity.

“I live in The Waters and have wanted to bring us something cute and functional for years,” Carr said. “The community is amazing. And I thought it needed something that continued to increase the resort style of living. My daughter actually opened Cotton+Creek in April 2021 in Prattville. She decided she wanted to go back to school, so I took over the business.”

She said the response to the store’s June opening has been outstanding.

“Pike Road is amazing! Such a great community. They are so supportive,” she said. “The town has received us with open arms. And everyone is willing to help us where they can.”

The store measures about 2,000 square feet. Carr said that only the bottom portion of the building is now in use. “The front of the store is about 800 square feet of retail space. We have individual rooms for our lash artist, and space for other upcoming entrepreneurs to join our space. So, if you offer any beauty services, reach out to us,” she said.

The opening of the business created six new full or part-time jobs, Carr said.

Cotton offers women's clothing, shoes, accessories, and gifts in the store and online. “We plan to expand our inventory to include men, children, and pets in the future. We also have a lash artist joining our team on July 5,” she said, adding that the service’s name will be ‘Lashed by Kaylee.’

She said an overwhelming majority of sales now occur in the store. Cotton also hosts live sales on Facebook on Mondays at 2 p.m. The store’s Facebook site is @cottonandcreek.

Cotton offers a wide variety of styles for different age groups. “We have clothing that starts at $15 all the way up to high-end items at $150,” Carr said. “We offer brands such as Vintage Havana, J.Marie, Taylor Shaye Designs and ShuShop. We also feature local artists like KT Creations, who is Kaitlyn Piggott, a 10th grader who attends Pike Road High School. And we are always open to adding more locally-made items, so reach out to us. We want everyone to be able to find just what they are looking for. Whether they are jogging around the neighborhood or attending a beautiful wedding at the chapel.”

Carr plans to start showcasing fall items in late July and early August.

“We receive new items each week,” she said. “Follow us on social media for pop ups, and special events throughout each month. We have so much planned!”
