Austin Fire sends crew to help battle Dempsey fire in Palo Pinto County

The fire has burned through nearly 11,600 acres and is 18% contained.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Fire sent a crew of four to help with an ongoing wildfire just west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Crews said the fire, called the Dempsey fire, poses a threat to nearby homes and farms. The fire has doubled in size since they arrived on Friday and has burned through 11,597 acres.

The fire is located three hours north of Austin in Palo Pinto County and is 18% contained.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said on the afternoon of June 26 that crews and aviation continue to establish firelines and reinforce areas of concern.

The forest service said the state is heading into its fourth week of high fire danger conditions due to above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall.

Firefighters have responded to at least 14 different wildfires this weekend.
