Three people were killed after two cars collided today along La. 308 in Lockport, State Police said.

Killed in the wreck were 47-year-old Grant Gremillion of Sulphur, 44-year-old Ramiro Pineda-Perez of Berwick and 38-year-old Alexander Vigil of Morgan City, according to Troop C.

The crash occurred about 5 a.m. about half a mile south of the Bellevue Bridge, Troop C said in a news release.

Gremillion was driving north on La. 308 in a 2013 Ford F-250, police said. At the same time, Pineda-Perez was driving a 2010 Chrysler 300 on the two-lane highway.

Gremillion crossed the centerline into the path of the Chrysler while in a right curve, according to Troop C.

Pineda-Perez tried to avoid a collision by steering to the right but was struck by the Ford pickup, police said. The impact caused the Ford to overturn and the Chrysler to travel off the roadway as the vehicles came to a stop.

All were pronounced dead at the scene.

Gremillion was not wearing a seat belt, Troop C said. Pineda-Perez and his passenger, Vigil, were both wearing seat belts.

A toxicology sample, required by state law in all fatal crashes, was collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis.

Troop C has investigated 24 fatal crashes resulting in 28 deaths in 2022.
