ORLANDO, Fla. — Two systems are trying to develop in the tropics this weekend.

The first, a disorganized area of showers and storms over the northern Gulf, off the cost of Mississippi and Alabama.
The disturbance will continue to slowly meander this week toward the coast of Texas and farther from Florida.
The disturbance doesn’t show a great chance of development; however, a low chance is there.

The second disturbance, although much farther away, shows more potential.

It’s associated with a tropical wave moving across the Atlantic and is showing signs of organization.
This system has a good chance of development into a tropical depression or even named storm (the next on the list is Bonnie) this week.
Channel 9 is monitoring the Windward Islands for any potential impacts Tuesday.

After that, a track across the southern Caribbean is likely, possibly ultimately moving toward Central America.
Further organization in this area may get hampered by land interaction with the Venezuelan coast.
The system looks to stay well south of Florida.
With the current forecast of both disturbances, there is no threat to Florida at this point.
