DB Shelton Lewis ‘Decommits’ From Pitt; Another DB On the Way?

Published

on

2023 three-star defensive back Shelton Lewis committed to Pitt after his official visit to Pittsburgh over the first weekend of June, but he officially announced his de-commitment today — less than a month later.

Lewis, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback from Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, Georgia, continued to make official visits after his commitment, and souces tell PSN that the decision wasn’t well-received by Pitt’s coaching staff.

While it’s being termed a de-commitment, the decision was mutual and very much encouraged by Pitt after Lewis visited North Carolina.

Lewis made an official visit to North Carolina last weekend, deciding to make his official visit to the Tar Heels despite canceling his other planned official visit to Arkansas, and it ultimately decided his fate at Pitt.

With commitments from three-star cornerbacks Brice Pollock and Shadarian Harrison the same weekend as Lewis, Pitt already features a strong foundation in the defensive secondary for the class of 2023. And with Lewis off the books, PSN believes that Pitt’s third commitment today will be from a defensive back.

As Lewis decided to keep his official visit to North Carolina last weekend, Pitt’s staff already began to plan for the final visit window. Four-star defensive back Jaremiah Anglin and three-star defensive back Jesse Anderson made official visits to Pitt this weekend.

It wouldn’t be at all surprising if two more defensive back commits are added to Pitt’s class of 2023 in the upcoming future.

Sheesh…good for Pitt though. This was like someone getting engaged but still going on dates with others. Sometimes recruits commit just to hold a spot while they shop around for something better. Colleges do the same but I guess Pitt is more old school. I guess time will tell.
