Lewiston native Isaiah Harris finished in sixth place in the men’s 800-meter run final at the United States Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Sunday.
Harris finished in 1 minute, 45.68 seconds.
Bryce Hoppel (1:44.60) won the final, followed by Jonah Koech (1:44.74) and Brandon Miller (1:45.19), and all qualify for the World Championships, which begin July 15, also in Eugene, Oregon.
Harris started the first 200 meters in the lead pack of runners but quickly fell back in the group. He was fifth after the first lap with a split of 52.12 seconds but was stuck behind runners heading into the back straightaway.
Harris made an aggressive move on the inside in an effort to give himself a chance to out-kick the competition and battle into the top three spots to qualify for Worlds, but wasn’t able to make up the deficit on the final straightaway.
Harris is recovering from a torn hamstring suffered on March 20 while running in the 4×400-meter relay at the World Indoor Championships.
