Just as FestivALL wrapped up Sunday, the city of Charleston is preparing for its next big event: the Sternwheel Regatta.
Organizer Jane Bostic said it's crunch time with just four days left to set everything up in time for June 30.
"Just seeing the carnival move in, it's a new thrill of excitement in the air because now it's actually happening," Bostic said. "You're going to see food vendors coming in. You're going to see sound and stages and all this equipment coming in. We are going to be ready to roll Thursday at noon."
It's been 12 years since the last Regatta. Bostic said she's looking forward to a whole new generation that will experience Regatta for the first time.
"People have a lot of nostalgic memories, and kids have heard stories from their parents and grandparents," Bostic said. "You're going to see some of the things you saw before and bring back some of those memories, but this Regatta is going to be better than ever because we're bringing in the old, but we're bringing in new."
Along with the classic sternwheel boat races, music performances and fireworks, some new activities include a craft beer festival, battle of the bands, pro wrestling and a BMX and skate exhibition. You can find a list of all of the activities here.
"I love to see kids having fun," Bostic said. "Down at Magic Island, it's going to be great just to see all the things that we have for the kids. Then, come up here in the evening and relax and enjoy national entertainment."
