Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in Mount Vernon about 6 p.m. Saturday.
A motorcycle operated by Matthew Sheridan, 32, of Somerset crashed after the rear tire blew out while traveling northbound on Interstate 75, according to a news release from the Kentucky State Police. The news release said the passenger, identified as Faith Jenkins, 26, also of Somerset was killed in the wreck.
Troopers said both individuals were transported to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Berea by Rockcastle EMS following the incident. Emergency service workers reported transferring Sheridan to the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital and his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. The Madison County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Jenkins died due to injuries suffered in the crash.
Investigators said neither party was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.
Kentucky State Police reported receiving additional assistance from Madison County EMS, Mount Vernon Fire Department, Brodhead Police Department and the Rockcastle Sheriff’s Office.
The incident remains under investigation.
