Pitt Lands First OL Commitment from 3-Star OL Colin Van Rooy
It took almost all of June, but Pitt has finally landed an offensive lineman commit. And it’s come from a big, strong offensive lineman from just south of Cleveland.
3-star offensive lineman Colin Van Rooy (6’5”, 300-pounds) informed Pat Narduzzi that he was committing and joining Pitt’s Class of 2023 and becomes Pitt’s 12th commitment.
Van Rooy is from Strongsville, Ohio and earned his offer while taking part in Pitt’s prospect camp two weeks ago.
Following his announcement, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Van Rooy who admitted he was leaning towards committing this weekend and that decision was cemented after spending time with members of Pitt’s offensive line.
”It was special hanging out with the guys,” said Van Rooy. “I had a couple offensive lineman as my hosts and you could just feel how tight and the bond that those guys had. There’s a specific bond that the offensive lineman have. Not many people know what that’s like and when you’re able to bond like that, it creates a special vibe.”
”My host was Ryan Jacoby and I talked a lot with Ryan Baer, who’s from East Lake. I used to train with him for awhile. They were telling me what the coaches were actually like. They said Coach Borbs is a great coach and doesn’t really yell but will get on your ass when you’re not doing something well which I love from a coach.”
Van Rooy describes himself as a smart player who plays fast and “is very technique driven and I follow the program, that’s it.”
Van Rooy tells PSN that it’s not been determined which position he’ll play but knows that the staff was excited when he gave them the news this morning.
“I told them this morning, it was at the end of the visit,” said Van Rooy. “I told Coach Narduzzi and he was just estatic. He opened the door at his office and told him everyone in the hallway waiting. It was just a great day overall.”

You know I don’t like the nil bullshit neither but it’s here and pitt better pick it up and get in the game cause our recruiting is going to put us on the bottom of the acc
I have no doubt NIL is affecting our recruiting strategy. I feel the coaching staff is going for guys they feel have the talent to develop and most importantly will stay with the program.These guys will be the foundation. They’ll get into the NIL race with a couple skilled position guys and or transfers to balance out what they can’t build to be competitive. Look at the panic in these comments. Lest you all forget; Kenny Pickett was a 3 star, Patrick Jones was a 2 star, Rashad Weaver was a 2 star. This is just a sample of the talent that has come to Pitt underrated and now playing in the NFL.
Even Jordan Addison was a 3 star recruit so stars doen’t really mean much at all.
Pitt does an outstanding job of developing talent that everyone else overlooks. Relax people, Pitt will be just fine.

can’t constantly recruit 3* with the hope of “coaching em up”. Most will be what they are which will hurt depth and ultimately wins. For every Pickett and Addison there are far more that should be at Lehigh
Who said anything about stars just look at the kids offer sheet Mac schools and Lehigh and the guys your referring to only Pickett and Addison were on a successful team all the others you mentioned were on teams that were 6-6, 7-5 if that’s your standard then you’ll be happy with these kind of projects
