Members of Wiscasset Senior Center re-elected the current board of trustees at the annual breakfast meeting Saturday at WCC. Larry Rines will remain trustee chair, Mat ’O Donnell vice chair, Mike Hagerman treasurer and June Ann Percival secretary. Carolann Rines and Kincad Rines with continue as trustees at large.

Larry Rines opened the meeting noting the terms were staggered and he has two years left on his term while ’O Donnell has one. Hagerman reported the organization remains financially sound.

There were no proposed changes in the bylaws for the board to consider but Rines said some amendments might be needed in the future. “Our bylaws require us to do things, form committees but we can’t currently do so because we don’t have enough people.” he explained. Rines added there was nothing within the bylaws addressing the COVID pandemic. “The trustees met a few times during the pandemic but not as a group for over a year.”

He said he was disappointed more of the membership didn’t show up for the annual meeting and missed out on a wonderful breakfast. “We sent out about 60 letters of invitation beforehand and I wish more people had joined us.” The only non-trustees there were Ed Polewarczyk and wife Arlene. Carolann Rines, Larry’s wife, said other community activities were going on – St. Philips’ annual Strawberry Festival and also a benefit bake sale at Ames True Value.

“Our best attended event continues to be when we meet to play cribbage Tuesday morning and Thursday evenings,” Rines told Wiscasset Newspaper. “We typically get from 25 to 30 people, some that drive from Whitefield, others from Bristol and West Bath.”

Chairman Rines noted Richmond Community Center is inviting Wiscasset Senior Center members to a mystery bus ride. The cost is $50 a head which covers the trip and a meal; no date has been announced. Last year’s mystery trip was to the city of Winslow which included a tour led by the mayor. 

The trustees took about 10 minutes to conduct their business. The Senior Center will continue to offer dinner on the first and third Wednesday of the month.
