Five-Star Offensive Tackle Announces Commitment Date

Five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa announced he is making his college decision on July 4 Sunday morning.

Mauigoa announces his commitment date coming off his weekend official visit to Tennessee, his second visit to Knoxville in the last six weeks.

While the blue-chip offensive tackle is coming directly off his Tennessee visit, Mauigoa has taken all five of his official visits in the last three weeks. Mauigoa visited Alabama, Miami, Florida and Southern California as well as Tennessee.

Mauigoa ranks as the No. 9 player and No. 1 offensive tackle in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The massive 6-foot-5, 330 pound offensive tackle ranks as a top 25 recruit on every major recruiting service and peaks as the No. 5 player in the country on ESPN.

The five-star recruit is an America Somoa native — an American territory in the Pacific — but plays his high school football at IMG Academy in Florida. Mauigoa rank as the No. 1 player in the state of Florida. The Vols have targeted a handful of players at IMG Academy in this cycle, missing out on Carnell Tate while Devin Hyatt remains uncommitted.

Mauigoa comes from a football family. His older brother Frederick Mauigoa starred on the offensive line for Washington State before spending time for the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals. Fransisco Mauigoa just finished his freshman season at Washington State.

Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class currently holds two offensive line commitments including four-star Knoxville Catholic standout Trevor Duncan and three-star Mount Juliet native Ayden Bussell.

Josh Heupel’s second full recruiting class is currently the nation’s 12th best according to the 247sports team rankings while a commitment from Mauigoa would be a major boost. The offensive tackle would be Tennessee’s second highest rated commit behind quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
