RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office announced that deputies investigated a shooting that happened on Saturday night.

Deputies said the shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. near Webb Road in Ellenboro. While responding, deputies were updated by dispatch just before their arrival that the suspect, who was being detained by witnesses on scene, escaped and ran into the woods.

Witnesses waived down responding deputies and the victim, Robert Buckner, with multiple gunshot wounds was found in a car. Before he was taken to the hospital, Buckner told deputies the suspect who shot him.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies then set up a perimeter around the wooded area with the aid of K9 Koda and began searching for Flynn. After tracking Flynn through the wooded area, deputies were informed the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office had Flynn in custody. Cleveland Deputies had been called to a nearby convenience store due to a male subject causing a disturbance, which turned out to be Flynn. The store was approximately three miles from the scene.

We’re told Flynn was taken into custody and transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries sustained during the altercation with Buckner. Flynn was later taken to the Rutherford County Detention Facility.

Deputies charged Flynn with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of firearm by felon. Flynn received a $50,000 secured bond.

Buckner was treated for three non-life threating gunshot wounds.
