Man Charged With Aggravated Assault

A maintenance employee at an island resort was charged with aggravated assault after an altercation with his co-worker.

Rudolph Gordon of Fort Myers was arrested Wednesday, June 22 by Sanibel Police for allegedly threatening his co-worker with a hammer during a fight over his missing tools. Gordon was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill. He was released Thursday, June 23 from the Lee County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Vehicle Crashes

Willard Burh was traveling west on Periwinkle Way at 4:51 p.m. Saturday, June 18, when his vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle operated by Zachery Schooley, who made a left turn in front of Burh’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. Schooley was issued a citation for careless driving.

A witness observed a vehicle at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, June 18 travel through a dirt path and strike the Surfside condo building on East Gulf Drive. The driver was identified as Julie Gentry, who confirmed the accident. Gentry’s vehicle caused minimal damage to the building.

Terry O’Brien was backing his vehicle out of a parking space Wednesday, June. 22 at Jerry’s Shopping Center, 1700 Periwinkle Way, when his vehicle struck a vehicle operated by Derek Rekowski. No injuries were reported.

Animal Reports

A deceased juvenile dolphin was found Wednesday, June 22 floating about 50 yards offshore near the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa. A mother dolphin was swimming nearby, repeatedly pushing the deceased dolphin away from the shore.

The Florida Wildlife Commission was contacted and advised an attempt to take the deceased dolphin from the mother would disturb the natural grieving process. FWC stated the dolphins should be left alone until the grieving mother abandons it.

A coyote was sighted Tuesday, June 21 in the area between Dairy Queen and Huxters Market on Periwinkle Way.
