Jazz vocalist Kurt Elling plays The Acorn on July 1
THREE OAKS — Jazz vocalist Kurt Elling performs at 8 p.m. July 1 at The Acorn, 107 Generations Drive.
A baritone with a four-octave range, Elling and pianist Laurence Hobgood had a longtime collaboration as leaders of a quartet.
He also has toured as part of the UNESCO-sponsored “International Jazz Day” performances in Havana, Cuba; in St. Petersburg, Russia; in Melbourne, Australia; and in Washington D.C., and has twice performed at the White House, including a performance in collaboration with the late Marvin Hamlisch and the National Symphony Orchestra for President Obama’s first State Dinner.
His 16 albums as a leader include 1995’s “Close Your Eyes,” 2009’s “Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman” and 2020’s “Secrets Are the Best Stories.”
In 2021, Elling released “SuperBlue,” a new recording in collaboration with Charlie Hunter and members of the future groove band Butcher Brown.
