Fireworks opportunities abound in Oakland County. This year is the fifth anniversary for M1 Concourse’s Cars Under the Stars spectacular, set for 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at 1 Concourse Drive in Pontiac.

Sarah Mueller, M1’s client services administrator, said about 3,000 people are expected to this outdoor event. Reservations are full for the 100 who’ll park their upscale cars on the track, where visitors will find food trucks and a special kid-friendly space.

“We have a variety of activities for little kids,” Mueller said. “We acquired some peddle cars kids can ride and we reserved a safe section for them.”

It costs $10 for people who would rather park elsewhere and walk into the concourse, with Pontiac residents paying only $5.

Because it’s an outside event, people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for extra seating, she said.

Volunteers and M1 ambassadors will be out in force to help visitors and Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies will be managing event security and traffic flow, Mueller said.

Traffic will be routed to the South Boulevard or Woodward Avenue entrances, with the Rapid Street entrance on the site’s north side closed at 5 p.m.

People don’t have to arrive right at 5 p.m. to enjoy the evening, she said, as walk-ins will be allowed through the evening, as long as they pay the entry fee.

Fireworks are set to start blasting off at 9:45 p.m. and will be over before 10:30 p.m. People are advised to be patient and courteous if they are in line to enter or leave the concourse.
