IT HAPPENED THIS MORNING AROUND 1 O CLOCK... ON WEST SAINT JULIAN STREET...RIGHT BY ELLIS SQUARE. WE FIRST BROUGHT YOU THIS STORY AS BREAKING NEWS ON WJCL 22 MORNING NEWS. SAVANNAH POLICE TELLS US THREE PEOPLE WERE SHOT AND THAT A TOTAL OF FOUR ARE HURT ... ONE DEALING WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. RIGHT NOW ... OFFICERS HAVE NOT MADE ANY ARRESTS ... OR IDENTIFIED ANY SUSPECTS. INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY - *DID IDENTIFY A PERSON OF INTEREST IN THE CASE ... AND CHASED THEM INTO EFFINGHAM COUNTY. An overnight shooting in downtown Savannah has injured three people.

Update 11:51 a.m.: The Savannah Police Department has issued the following statement:"Savannah Police detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that resulted in three people being injured. Around 1 a.m. today multiple shots were fired in the 200 block of W. St. Julian Street, resulting in three victims being wounded.Multiple officers were in the immediate vicinity working in a patrol or extra duty capacity and were able to immediately render aid to the victims and help with securing the scene. The three victims, ages 20-23, were transported to a hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries. A male victim is suffering from serious injuries but is in stable condition. The other victims – one male and one female – have non-life threatening injuries.One person of interest was seen fleeing the area. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but he fled and continued to flee until he was caught in Effingham County. He was interviewed by detectives. He was charged with multiple traffic charges but has not been charged in connection to the shooting at this time.Detectives continue to investigate the incident. No other charges have been filed at this time.SPD is asking anyone with any information on the incident or anyone who has any photos or recordings that may have captured the incident to call the Crime Tip Line at (912) 525-3124 or CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020. Tips can also be submitted through a CrimeStoppers online tip portal at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=757.
