WOMEN’S RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS IN FRONT OF STOCKTON CITY HALL ON SATURDAY. I MEAN WOMEN HAVE RIGHTS TO THEIR OWN BODY AND ABORTION IS ONE OF THEM RIGHT NOW CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ABORTION WOMEN’S HEALTH AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS ARE HAPPENING IN DROVES AROUND THE COUNTRY FOLLOWING THE SUPREME COURT’S DECISION TO OVERTURN ROE V WADE. THERE’S JUST A LOT AT STAKE AND A REALLY REALLY SCARY TIME. SO I JUST WANT TO DO WHAT I CAN FOR NOT ONLY THIS NOT ONLY MY COMMUNITY BUT COMMUNITIES EVERYWHERE. I WANT TO STAND UNITED WITH THEM THIS CROWD SHOWING AND SHARING THEIR OUTRAGE FOR THE COURT’S DECISION. I SAW SO MANY PEOPLE SUCH A BROAD BASE OF SUPPORT FROM BLACK BROWN WHITE. SO MANY COLORS SO MANY ETHNICITIES GENDERS RAISED AND AGE TOO MANY IN THE GROUP SAY THEY FELT COMPELLED TO BE HERE EVEN AS CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS STRESS ABORTION IN THE STATE WILL REMAIN LEGAL IS THIS HOLIDAY? RIGHT, LIKE I THINK THAT YOU KNOW BEING IN CALIFORNIA, WE DO HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO HAVE THAT DECISION. UNFORTUNATELY OTHER WOMEN AND PEOPLE WITH FETUSES DON’T OR SO IT’S IT’S IMPORTANT WHY WE ARE OUT HERE SHOWING THAT SOLIDARITY AND COMING TOGETHER ORGANIZERS SAY THEY PLANNED THIS PROTEST THE DAY AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO ATTEND OTHER THIS WEEKEND, TOO. THING THE WORK IS JUST GETTING STARTED. WE NEED TO KEEP STAYING ON THE STREETS. START WE’RE GONNA KEEP FIGHTING. YOU KNOW, WE’RE NOT GONNA TOLERATE THIS AND YOU KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO PROTEST AND DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO FIGHT FOR THAT FREEDOM IN STOCKTON LEON DENIER KCRA3 NEWS, AND WE KNOW THAT MANY PEOPLE DO SUPPORT THIS OVERTURN OUR KCRA THROUGH CREW ON THE GROUND REPORTS. A crowd gathered in front of Stockton’s City Hall on Saturday to denounce the decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. “I just think women should have rights to their own bodies - and abortion is one of them,” said Mia Badillo. Conversations about abortion, women's health and reproductive rights are happening – in droves – around the country, following the Supreme Court's decision.“There’s just a lot at stake,” said Shelby Miller. “I want to do what I can, for not only for my community, but communities everywhere. I want to stand united with them.”While there are people who support the court’s move, Saturday’s crowd was full of people who opposed the decision. “I saw so many people, such a broad base of support from Black, brown, white, so many colors, ethnicities, genders, race and age, too,” said David Sengthay.Gov. Gavin Newsom, California’s attorney general, top legislative leaders and state abortion rights advocates have responded to the decision by affirming California's status as a sanctuary state for those who seek abortions. Newsom signed a bill during a Friday news conference, AB1666, that immediately protects patients and health providers in California from civil lawsuits based on other states’ laws.Many in the group in Stockton on Saturday said they felt compelled to demonstrate even as abortion access remains legal in California. “It’s a solidarity,” Olea said. “I think that being in California, we do have the privilege to have that decision but unfortunately other women and people with fetuses don't, so it's important, why we're out here showing that solidarity and coming together.”The protest was held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
