DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - After two and a half years of battling leukemia, UMD’s defensemen Will Francis has fought the good fight and overcome it! On Saturday, Francis shared via Instagram that he is officially cancer free.

At Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital he rang the bell surrounded by his family, friends, doctors and nurses. The Bulldog wrote on his post, “Wow, words cannot describe the feeling today of ringing the bell! I hope I can be an inspiration to others... I am beyond excited for the future and what it holds #WillPower.”

Francis also shared words of gratitude to all of the people who have been in his corner, cheering him on, thanking them for their support, love and prayers.

The rookie played in five games this past season for the Bulldogs and was drafted in the 6th round by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2019 NHL entry draft.
