Black Division tops Gold All Stars

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Black Division All Stars defeated the Gold Division 36-12 on Saturday evening at Indiana State’s Memorial Stadium. The Black Division got touchdowns from William Newby (Sullivan) Aidan Neathery (Indian Creek) and Braxton Sampson (Northview) to build a 22-6 halftime lead.

The Gold Division got a touchdown from Noble Johnson (Parke Heritage) in the 2nd quarter which cut the deficit to 14-6 at the time. Johnson drove eight hours on Thursday to make it in time and says it was fun to play in the game. “I mean I’m just blessed to be here I mean the coaches let me come and play the kids have accepted me it’s just a pleasure to play in front of the community to play against kids that I’ve got to play against and play with kids that I’ve got to play against so it’s really fun to come together and really play with different kids,” he said.

Added Sullivan’s William Newby: “We came out confident in what we were going to do today and I was just happy to be able to do my part and come out and punch them in the mouth and we’re going to continue that in the 2nd half.”

Braxton Sampson had the final Black Division touchdown in the 2nd quarter and had a feeling the ball would come his way. “(Mark) Raetz put me in there towards the end of the half I knew he was going to call the play we’ve ran that all season long the season earlier before this so I knew it was coming and I knew it would be open,” Sampson said. This game marked the final time many high school players will represent their schools on the field.
