YORK, Pa. -- Everything the Staten Island FerryHawk pitchers threw at the York Revolution batters Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park seemed to be hit -- and hit real hard.
The result was a 22-hit, 19-run outing for the host squad which won the game, 19-1, sending the Island’s new pro baseball team to its biggest loss of the season.
The FerryHawks, who lost their third straight and fell to 17-40, had suffered a 19-2 defeat to Lexington on May 5.
York, which improved to 26-30, jumped all over FerryHawk starter Matt Solter for four runs in the first inning. Solter entered the game with third best ERA (2.91) in the league but was torched for 10 hits and six runs (all earned) in five innings. Solter fell to 1-6 on the season as his ERA soared to 3.47.
Things went from bad to worse for the next four Staten Island hurlers, who surrendered 13 runs, including four homers, in the final three York at-bats.
Staten Island’s lone run came in the first inning when Ricardo Cespedes doubled home Dilson Herrera.
