Foul odor leads cops to plastic bags filled with remains on a freeway with mysterious death investigation launched

A MYSTERIOUS death investigation was launched after a full odor led cops to plastic bags filled with unidentified remains on a freeway on Friday.

According to California Highway Patrol, they received an initial call regarding a bad smell originating from the plastic bags.

Homeless men alerted a nearby construction crew about the bags, which were found adjacent to an electrical power box next to Freeway 60 in California.

The freeway serves the towns and cities on the eastern edge of the Los Angeles metropolitan region.

The call came in just after 3am on Friday for a "suspicious circumstance."

A death investigation was sparked but the remains were soon found not to be human.

"By later Friday morning, CHP officials said it had been determined the remains are not human," as reported by ABC 7.

It is not clear what the remains belonged to.

Sgt Ivan Sanchez said the event is still being handled as a death investigation even though authorities were unable to establish what was in the bags.
