Steel recycling plant fire burning 'out of control' in Sutter County, authorities say
Multiple fire agencies are working to put out a steel recycling plant is on fire just west of Yuba City, authorities said. An air quality advisory has been issued for those in the area.
The fire started on Saturday at the Empire Steel facility on North Township Road, the Sutter County Fire Department said.
No structures are threatened by this fire, but authorities are warning people to avoid the area as roads are closed.
The Feather River Air Quality Management District has issued an air quality advisory for anyone in the area of the fire.
"Smoke from the fire may contain various air pollutants. Those who notice smoke should try to stay indoors, avoid outdoor activity, and use any filtration devices they may have," officials said.
Cal Fire along with local fire departments with Sutter, Butte, Colusa and Yuba counties are working to put out the blaze that's "burning out of control," authorities said.
There is no estimated time of containment.
A firefighter has suffered a minor injury from the fire.
It's unclear what caused the fire.
