Sheldon Teen Injured In Off-Road Vehicle Mishap Near Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Sheldon teen was taken to the hospital after a mishap near Rock Valley late Friday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 11:00 Friday morning, deputies were called to respond to an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred in a field, one mile east of Rock Valley.

According to authorities, 13-year-old Samuel De Weerd of Rock Valley, was driving a 2015 Polaris Ranger ORV in a field north of Fir Avenue when he made a sharp turn, lost control of the vehicle and rolled.

Deputies say a passenger in the vehicle, 16-year-old Jayden Leyva of Sheldon, was transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Health Center for injuries received when the vehicle landed on her leg.

The Polaris was not damaged.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Ambulance Service, Rock Valley Fire Department and the Rock Valley Police Department.
