Headland dedicates mural to longtime barber

HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — The Main street group revealed its newest mural in Headland Friday.

It is in honor of the beloved late barber Oyette Taylor — who had owned a barbershop on the corner of Cleveland Street and East Church Street — for many decades. His family moved to Headland in the 1960s.

Planning for the mural took over a year but it took only three months for artist Wes Hardin to put the “Perfect touch” on the mural with a 3-D feature to make the mural stand out.

Headland’s Main Street Director said the townpeople love their murals and this is the second-largest mural project since becoming designated as a main street community.

“Particularly special not only because its new but also we continued the pattern of having historical significance and its in the gateway of our downtown square and district.” Adrienne Wilkins said.

The barbershop is now a salon with the hair care tradition being carried on with happy conversations and haircuts.
