Protests against the SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe V. Wade also happened here at home.
In Morehead City, members of the Carteret County Democratic Party held up signs that read “My body, my choice,“ and "Stop the war on women” outside of the train depot in town.
Vickie Zangwill is the secretary for the Carteret Democratic Party and she said she is not pro abortion, she’s pro choice and trusting women to make the right choices for them.
“We all woke up to our less than equal in this country. We are here for our daughters, our sisters, our friends, here to fight the fight again that our mothers and grandmothers and beyond have fought for, and won, for 50 years,“ Zangwill said.
She also fears the overturn of Roe V. Wade means other rights will be questioned, like same sex marriage and interracial marriage.
“It’s not about abortion, it’s about women's health, reproductive rights in our autonomy with our own bodies and the decisions that we make for ourselves,” Katie Tomberlin with the Carteret County Democratic Party said.
