NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police found and destroyed four explosive devices near a Nassau County elementary school on Friday.

A plastic water bottle filled with powder and BBs was discovered by a parent by the gate for Norman J. Levy Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick, which children pass by frequently.

If the device were detonated, the BBs would be sent flying in order to injure anyone nearby.

Police found three other similar improvised explosive devices near the school.

Authorities are carrying out an investigation and reviewing surveillance footage in an attempt to identify who left the explosives.
