FLINT, Mich- Crime scene tape and police flashing lights, It's scenes people in Flint see way too often.
This was the scene today at St. Mark Community Outreach Center in Flint.
St. Mark's Baptist Church organized this event called "need a fresh start, saving our children and neighborhoods from gun violence."
Pastor Kevin Thompson calling on lawmakers to do what they can to get more guns off the streets.
"it's easy to get guns on the streets, many young people are carrying guns, ya know, when you walk in a gas station they have guns on their sides where you can see them, you wonder how did they get a chance to purchase that gun," said Thompson.
Today's event had food, games, prizes, and much more.
It was about having a good time but also coming together as a community in the name of peace.
Lieutenant Leon Skinner with the Genesee County Sheriff's Department says one on connection with the community will make a difference.
"Our heart is in the community that's where change has to happen, you change one person you change a lot of people and it takes many hands to change things, not one person can do everything but a lot of hands can do a lot," said Skinner.
