Democrats from Missouri and Illinois held their own rally and press conference in Quincy on Saturday ahead of Former President Donald Trump's rally.
Democrats gathered along the Mississippi River at Clat Adams Park.
Adams County Democratic Party Chair Katherine Adams and U.S. Congresswomen Lauren Underwood, Illinois’ 14th District, were among the speakers.
Organizers for the Democrats for Democracy rally say the wanted their voices heard about protecting the fundamental rights of our democracy.
"We are rallying for democracy because Donald Trump is at the fairgrounds, and he is not really for democracy. He is more of an authoritarian and he has proven that throughout his presidency," Adams said. "I'm hoping that people will see that there are democrats out in greater Illinois. I think that for far to long many people have thought they have been alone or they haven't known other democrats in the area."
The speakers also reacted to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the landmark case of Roe vs Wade and discussed what it means for the state of Illinois and what they hope they can accomplish for women's rights moving forward.
