Lancaster County Coroner identifies Rt. 222 crash victim

EPHRATA, Pa. (WHTM) — The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of Saturday morning’s deadly crash on Route 222.

Chief Deputy Coroner Eric Bieber identified the female victim as Amy Freytiz, 49, of Shillington. Bieber said Freytiz died from multiple traumatic injuries with smoke inhalation and thermal burns as a result of the accident.

According to Ephrata Police, the crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Route 222 at mile marker 42. A car traveling southbound struck the back end of a tractor-trailer that stopped on the berm of the highway.

During an investigation, police say evidence at the scene suggested that the car was traveling at highway speed when the impact occurred. The vehicle caught fire and Freytiz was pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:18 a.m.
