Florence Little League is back in the District 12 Softball Tournament and hoping to make an immediate impact.

To do that, Florence is looking to its versatility as a strength.

“We have some pretty good depth at pitcher and we have some girls who can play multiple positions,” coach Scott Schuler said. “We can move some things around when we have to make substitutions. We have some older girls, too, so we have that depth and experience.”

Florence won’t get its tournament underway until Tuesday as it awaits the winner of the game between Bordentown and Robbinsville.

“It’s been a while,” Schuler said. “It’s been nice to get the girls to commit and play now. It has been a couple years, so we are excited about the group that has been playing together all year.”

The team chemistry is also right where it needs to be.

“The team chemistry makes everything,” Schuler said. “If you are not together then they are not going to play as a team. These girls have been playing together whether it is rec, travel, practices, so they know each other from school and everything else. It’s been good to see them gel together.”

What does Florence need to do to have a chance to win?

“If they do the little things and don’t make any mental mistakes and stay within themselves,” Schuler said. “It’s just a game, so play loose and don’t get too up tight. I think we have the talent to be able to make a deep run.”
