When the District 12 Softball Tournament gets underway on Monday night, Bordentown Little League will have the comfort of playing at home.
The youngsters from B’town are hoping that, along with a strong lineup can help them dethrone rival Robbinsville, which it plays in the opener, as the district champion.
“It seems like it always works out that way,” coach Frank Stout said. “You have to beat them sometime in the tournament, so why not be the first game.”
While Stout was quick to point out the team’s power potential at the plate, he also knows team chemistry is important if you want to advance. Since this Bordentown group has been together since the girls were eight years old, that won’t be an issue.
“It’s real important always having each other’s back and never giving up,” Stout said.
Bordentown also has a strong softball tradition.
“We we remind them of it quite often,” Stout said. “The high school girls work with us, so we try to keep it B’town all the way.”
Ultimately, what will it come down to for Bordentown to win the tournament?
“Everything,” Stout said with a laugh. “The little things: field the ball clean, hit the ball like we know how to hit the ball, pitch the ball like we know how to pitch the ball and play as a team.”
The District 12 winner advances to the Section 3 Tournament at Holbrook Little League.
