Martinez is a much-coveted left-sided centre back who can also play at left-back. It is believed that Arsenal wish to buy cover for the left-sided centre-back spot this summer.

Lisandro Martinez is Arsenal's top defensive target this summer with the club wanting to sign a left-sided centre back

They are well stocked on the right of their defence, with Ben White, William Saliba and Rob Holding all comfortable there. However, their only option on the left side of the middle is Gabriel and as such they wish to add a player in that area.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus is edging closer to a move to Arsenal after the north London club agreed a fee of around £45m for the player with Manchester City.

Raphinha is another target for the club and it was suggested on Saturday that Arsenal are now viewed as clear favourites to land the Brazilian. It had been expected that he would go to Barcelona but owing to their financial woes that move has not materialised.
