Suspect intentionally rammed Franklin County Sheriff's Office vehicle

At 6:49 a.m. Saturday Lyon County Sheriff's Office was engaged in a vehicle pursuit that entered Franklin County.Franklin County deputies deployed spike strips in an attempt to end the pursuit.The deployment was successful, but the vehicle continued at a slow rate of speed into the Love's Travel Stop parking lot at 203 East 27th Street, Ottawa.The driver, who has been identified as Rebecca Estrada, intentionally rammed a Franklin County Sheriff's Office vehicle injuring a deputy.Estrada exited the vehicle armed with a knife and entered an occupied tractor-trailer parked next to her vehicle. The driver of the trailer was able to exit the vehicle and was unharmed.The Ottawa Police Department's Special Tactics and Rescue team (S.T.A.R.) responded for support.After lengthy negotiations, S.T.A.R. deployed less lethal munitions into the tractor-trailer getting Estrada to exit the vehicle. Estrada has been arrested for aggravated robbery, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of methamphetamines, and felony Interference with law enforcement locally. Authorities say Estrada was actively smuggling several citizens from countries south of the United States border to several states east of Kansas.Further charges are expected out of Lyon County.
