Nobody has dominated District 12 Softball quite like Robbinsville Little League.

Fresh off yet another Little League World Series appearance, Robbinsville is set to begin its quest for a return trip to Greenville, N.C., when the District 12 Tournament gets underway on Monday night.

R’ville won the LLWS in 2014 and finished third in 2016.

“They understand the tradition,” coach Wendy O’Neal said. “It puts a little pressure on them, but they like the pressure a little bit. We have three returners from last year who went to the Little League World Series. … That’s why they play, they play for the tradition.”

While Robbinsville is certainly the favorite to advance from District 12, it won’t be easy with the field of competitors at six teams — the most the softball tournament has had in years.

“That’s definitely a good thing,” O’Neal said. “It’s very important for girls to be involved in youth sports.”

Robbinsville opens up against host team and rival Bordentown.

“It’s a good game,” O’Neal said. “It’s going to be a blast.”

O’Neal said the strengths of the team are its ability to hit and the strong pitching.

“We need to pitch, we need to hit and we need to field,” O’Neal said. “We have to be able to do all of those things in order to advance.”
