Hulu Cancels ‘Woke’ After Two Seasons

After two seasons Hulu has canceled the comedy series, Woke, according to Comicbook. This news was initially reported by Deadline. The live-action show mixed with animated elements was inspired by the life experiences of award-winning cartoonist Keith Knight (Jake the Fake Keeps It Real, Jake the Fake Goes for Laughs) and starred Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Game Night).

Debuting in September 2020, the series followed Morris as Keef, a Black cartoonist whose recent mainstream success is fractured by an incident of racial profiling. This experience leaves him rattled questioning his every move as an artist and the work he produces. While he embraces a new perspective, he has to balance the way it affects his work and whether it will be received the same. In addition to this new perspective, Keef starts seeing inanimate objects come alive.

Along with Morris, the series starred T. Murph (Kevin Hart Presents: The Next), Blake Anderson (Workaholics, Game Over, Man), JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Real Husbands of Hollywood), and Sasheer Zamata (Home Economics, The Weekend) via Comicbook.

Knight created the series along with executive producer Marshall Todd (Twilight’s Last Fading), according to Comicbook. Additional executive producers included Eric Christian Olsen (Fired Up, NCIS: Los Angeles), John Will (Band of Robbers, The Trouble with Bliss), Will Gluck (Peter Rabbit, Easy A), Maurice “Mo” Marable (Lodge 49, Insecure), Richie Schwartz (Moonbeam City, The Straight Story), and Anthony King (Search Party, Dead to Me).

The series produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature is just the latest in several high-profile series cancellations. HBO Max recently canceled its sci-fi romantic drama, Made for Loveand thriller series, Raised by Wolves, both after two seasons. Over on the streamer’s sister network TNT, Warner Bros. Discovery announced the TV adaptation of Snowpiercer would end after its upcoming fourth season.

Both seasons of Woke can be streamed exclusively on Hulu.
