Penn State is in the hunt along with Alabama, Miami, Michigan State and Ohio State. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety is the No. 3 recruit in New Jersey, the No. 36 safety in the country and the No. 272 overall recruit in the Class of 2023.
Bonsu started his high school career at Hillside High School but transferred to St. Peterโs Prep before his junior season. He recorded 62 tackles (7.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks and two interceptions in 2021.
Scouts like Bonsuโs is versatility.
He can play physically in the box, at deep safety and in the slot. Bonsuย is a sure tackler, showing technique by driving back ball carriers. He has shown an understanding of the route tree, which helps him anticipate receivers’ tendencies in coverage.
Bonau spoke to 247Sportsโ Recruiting Analyst ย Brian Dohn about his unofficial visit to Penn State that he took back in January.
โThe coaches take care of their players and take education very seriously, which is big for me,โ he said.
Itโs not yet certain when Bonsu will take his official visit but heโs expected to announce his decision Aug. 20.
If Bonsu commits to Penn State, heโll join Conrad Hussey, DaKaari Nelson and Lamont Payne as defensive backs in the 2023 class.
