A 70-year-old Jackson man was killed in a two-car wreck in Manchester Township on Friday, and his passenger airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 7:58 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Commonwealth and Northampton boulevards in the Pine Lake section of the Ocean County township.

The driver, George Hruszczak, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. A 41-year-old passenger was airlifted to Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was listed in critical condition Saturday.

Police said Hruszczak’s 2005 Honda Civic was struck by a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the intersection.

The 28-year-old driver of the Jeep was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of “non-life-threatening injuries,” police said. She was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said.

Both Hruszczak and his passenger were wearing seatbelts, but the airbags in their car did not deploy, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.
