Sacramento-area couple in their 90s tie the knot, proving you're never too old for love
You're never too old to fall in love – and that's exactly what a North Natomas couple wants people to know.
Last weekend, 97-year-old Carl Hammer and 95-year-old Reva Truitt tied the knot where they met and both live at The Village at Heritage Park Senior Living Community.
Both were married for more than 70 years and are both widowed.
"It's been bout five months that we've been dating," Reva said.
Carl added, saying, "We're two doors apart. And we both have back doors!"
They said they were shocked to get those special butterflies later in life.
"It happens, when two sparks fire, you got a bonfire and that's what we've got," Carl said.
Reva added, "Right! And it's wonderful."
Reva first noticed Carl and started sitting near him during happy hour and they quickly became close.
The newlyweds were married on June 18 only in spirit. In the eyes of the state, this wasn't a legal ceremony, but instead, a time for their community and families to recognize their true love.
Together they make a large loving family.
Carl has three children, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Reva also has three children, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a few great-greats, but who's counting?
Carl is a famous maker of California State Fair blue-ribbon winning jams and makes and sells over 1,500 jars per year. He's been using his time and newfound love to teach his craft to Reva. All the proceeds from Carl's jam-making go to Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit organization that helps low-income homeowners in need of home repairs.
