MACON, Ga. (WGXA)-- Volunteers rolled up their sleeves and put on their work boots in the annual Take Pride in your Park cleanup event.
Dozens of people and those in the LGBTQIA+ community came out to restore trails and make them safer for the public.
Park Ranger and Volunteer Coordinator, Drew Grice believes the clean up efforts makes the space more inclusive.
"I think its really important because national parks are for everybody and by having folks come out it shows that this is their land," Grice said.
Volunteers worked to revitalize trails by laying out gravel, picking up trash, and cutting down overgrown bushes with the guidance of maintenance staff.
Coordinators of the event said the cleanup efforts emphasizes the importance of teamwork and getting out to enjoy the great outdoors.
Grice said the recent success of the cleanup gives them hope that they can plan more National Park cleanup events in the future.
