The heat wave has begun in western Oregon and Southwest Washington.
According to the KATU weather team, a Heat Advisory covers the entire region west of the Cascades and parts of Central and Southern Oregon.
High temperatures are expected to climb into the low 90s Saturday across the Willamette Valley.
Once the sun goes down, the skies will stay clear and the temperatures will stay warm, according to the KATU weather team.
On Sunday, triple digits are possible in the Willamette Valley.
The heat won’t be around for too long, as gradual cooling arrives after the weekend.
The high temperature will be down to the low 90s by Monday, and near 80 for most of next week.
As the region prepares for the first heat wave of the summer, there are some cooling centers that will be open.
Clark County officials say there are several available in Vancouver, including the Marshall/Luepke Community Center, the Vancouver Library, and the Water Resources Education Center.
The Battle Ground Library and Washougal Community Library will also serve as cooling centers.
In Multnomah County, several locations will be open until 8 p.m. through the weekend to help people stay cool. That includes the Holgate Library, the Central Library, and the Gresham Library.
The City of Beaverton will also activate an after-hours cooling center at Beaverton City Library Main, in the Cathy Stanton Room, from Saturday through Monday, for those looking for a place to cool down.
The cooling center will operate during the following days and times:
- Saturday, June 25, 6-8 PM
- Sunday, June 26, 6-8 PM
- Monday, June 27, 7-9 PM
