Stolen pickup crashes into West Michigan hair salon, causing gas leak

SPRINGFIELD, MI -- A stolen pickup crashed into a Battle Creek area hair salon early Friday, June 24, causing a large gas leak.

Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies said the truck crashed into Nature’s Design Hair Salon, 257 N. 20th Street in Springfield, about 9:15 a.m. Friday.

Deputies said the pickup driver fled the scene. No one at the business was injured.

Firefighters arrived to find the truck had sheared off a natural gas line, causing a large leak.

Authorities closed North 20th Street while Semco Energy workers turned off the gas and repaired the line.

Police determined the pickup was stolen out of Battle Creek.
