NC State's Justin Ress takes gold in backstroke at World Championships after DQ overturned

Posted June 25, 2022

After some officiating Saturday and the reversal of a disqualification, NC State's Justin Ress took home his first individual gold at the FINA World Aquatics Championships.

Ress finished .02 seconds ahead of fellow American Hunter Armstrong in the Mens 50 backstroke, but after a video review Ress was disqualified for apparently being submerged during his finish.

Armstrong was awarded gold at the podium.

However, after some discussion and review Ress's disqualification was reversed. Armstong happily gave up his gold to Ress after the ruling.

This is Ress's second total gold in the competition after winning Gold last Saturday with the USA team in the 4×100 free relay.
