1 COVID-19 death, 466 new cases reported in St. Cloud area

One death from COVID-19 and 466 new cases were reported in the St. Cloud tri-county area this week, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Across the state, 36 deaths and 9,398 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Tuesday through Friday. No data was reported Monday in observance of Juneteenth.

Of the 466 new cases, Stearns County reported 285 cases of COVID-19 and the death of a resident in their late 40s; Sherburne County reported 107 new cases; Benton County reported 74.

Stearns County has reported 53,581 total cases and 373 deaths from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Sherburne County has reported 28,421 cases and 182 deaths and Benton County has reported 14,857 cases and 177 deaths as of Friday, according to the department of health. 

A total of 1,546,698 cases and 12,780 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in Minnesota since the start of the pandemic.

Of Minnesotans aged 5 and older, 75.3% have received at least one vaccine dose, according to the health department's vaccine data website. In Stearns County, 61.3% of people 5 years old and older have received at least one vaccine dose; in Sherburne County, 58.8% of that same population; and in Benton County, 57.8%.Since the pandemic began, there have been more than 542 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 6.3 million deaths across the world, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. The U.S. has reported more than 86 million cases and more than 1 million deaths.
