1 dead in wreck on Hendersonville Road in Asheville

ASHEVILLE - One person died June 25 in an accident at the 1400 block of Hendersonville Road, police say.

John Charles Frey Jr., 51, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that happened around 10:40 p.m., according to a news release by the Asheville Police Department.

Frey was a passenger in a 2004 Mazda sedan that was traveling south on Hendersonville Road. The Mazda crossed the centerline into the northbound lanes and had a head-on collision with a 2019 Ford SUV, police said.

Occupants from both vehicles were transported to Mission hospital with serious injuries, according to the press release.
