Illinois State baseball third-year sophomore outfielder Ryan Cermak became the first Redbird to be named an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glover, as announced Wednesday.
Cermak, who originally came to ISU as a shortstop and pitcher, was named the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-MVC honors for the second-straight season. Cermak was also an All-MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team recipient.
Offensively, the Riverside, Illinois, native batted .340 on the season, recording 19 home runs, 45 RBIs and scoring 45 runs. Cermak is the first Redbird to hit more than 15 home runs in a season and is now tied for second in a single-season in ISU history.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cermak led the three outfield Gold-Glove recipients, Brock Jones of Stanford and Levi Usher of Louisville, with 3.31 putouts per game, recording three outfield assists and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on the season.
