An unoccupied home south of Lake Somerville was destroyed Friday afternoon in a fire.

Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Mantey said units responded around 1 p.m. to a structure fire on Gideon Lincecum Lane.

According to Mantey, firefighters arrived to find a home and carport fully involved.  There was also a grass fire about an acre in size that was moving to other structures in the area.

Responding units included the Rocky Creek, Gay Hill, Berlin, Burton and Salem Volunteer Fire Departments.  Washington County EMS, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas A&M Forest Service also assisted.
