Multnomah County said this weekend’s hot forecast does not meet the threshold for opening cooling centers.
“High temperatures are not forecast to last beyond a few days. Nor will they be high enough overnight or during the day to reach the threshold levels that would lead Multnomah County and the City of Portland to open cooling shelters,” the county said Thursday.
The county said people should seek out cool places “like a library, community center, movie theater or mall.” The highs Saturday through Monday will range from mid-90s to 100 in the Portland metro area, which is under a heat advisory issued Saturday.
The county said three of its library branches will extend their hours this weekend, remaining open until 8 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday:
- Holgate: 7905 SE Holgate Blvd.
- Central: 801 SW 10th Ave.
- Gresham: 385 NW Miller Ave.
