Some area baseball players had a unique experience earlier this month.
"It was really cool," said University of Louisville pitcher Michael Prosecky. "It was really eye-opening."
Prosecky was one of the over 250 baseball players who attended the MLB Draft Combine in San Diego in mid-June.
"You go out there and you see the company that you're with," said Prosecky. "And it's really humbling, but it's also — there's a sense of belonging. Everybody knows they belong out there."
One of the players who was out there with Prosecky was his UofL teammate and catcher Dalton Rushing.
"I just kind of went out there to kind of get to know every organization, the way that they work," said Rushing. "Get a better understanding of what their plan is, taking a player in. It was really good for a lot of guys. A lot of guys get to go out there, showcase their talent."
It wasn't just an event for college baseball players. It was open to all draft-eligible players who were selected by USA Baseball and MLB clubs.
"When I was walking to the mound (at Petco Park), it was pretty crazy," said New Albany High School pitcher and shortstop Tucker Biven, a UofL signee. "Being in front of all those people in that big of a stadium. It was just awesome."
Now that the players are back from the Combine, they'll have to wait until the MLB Draft in July before officially finalizing their future plans. The MLB Draft is set for July 17-19 in Los Angeles.
